Davide Balos Cappon

Davide Balos Cappon
Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Harvard University

Davide’s background is characterized by a strong knowledge of theoretical models and neurobiological bases of cognitive and emotional processes. He acquired knowledge about main deficits in behavioral, cognitive, and affective functions resulting from developmental (e.g., genetic diseases, specific learning disorders, dyslexia), degenerative (e.g., dementia, Parkinson's disease), and acquired (e.g., head trauma, stroke, other cerebral lesions) disorders. He is interested in a direct application of the most recent and advanced discoveries in neuroscience to innovative methods of diagnostic assessment and neuropsychological rehabilitation of cognitive disorders acquired during the lifespan.

Davide obtained his M.S. from Padova University and during his studies he joined John Rothwell’s lab at the Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London where and he learned transcranial magnetic (TMS) and electrical stimulation methods (tES) and he wrote his dissertation. He then pursued his graduate studies in Padova where he developed knowledge in quantitative electroencephalography (EEG time-frequency analysis, source localization), electromyography (EMG), behavioral computerized cognitive measures (subliminal masking) and neuropsychological assessment in healthy and pathological adults. He then during his graduate studies joined the Cognitive-Motor Neuroscience Group and the Unit of Functional Neurosurgery of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCL Institute of Neurology in London where he was involved in research studies with patients who have had deep brain stimulation surgery (DBS). He obtained experience in evaluating the impact of DBS on cognition and mood by neuropsychological assessments, scoring and interpretation.

Davide’s long-standing interest has been in cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology and neurophysiology. He is interested in to unravel neural substrates that underlie motor and cognitive functions and to explore and understand neuronal plasticity by combining neuromodulation with other techniques in healthy and pathological adult brain. At present, he is interested in the implementations of the most recent and advanced discoveries in neuroscience to develop new methods of diagnosis and rehabilitation in patients with neurological disorders. Davide joined the BA-CNBS in January 2018 and currently is working on a project that combine non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS, tACS), electroencephalography (EEG), positron emission tomography (PET), behavioral computerized cognitive tasks and other techniques in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Davide’s clinical interest include neuropsychological assessment and cognitive rehabilitation, focusing on dementia including Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and patients who underwent Deep Brain Stimulation surgery.
